Yahoo! NYC

Transforming Yahoo! from an old tech company into a new one.

As a Senior Visual Designer at Yahoo! New York, I was fortunate enough to be part of the Milewise acquisition and had the opportunity to help rejuvenate the company's image by creating innovative new products.

One of my proudest achievements at Yahoo was the development of Yahoo Screen for Android, a cutting-edge mobile app that brought all of Yahoo's licensed video entertainment content together in one place. I designed the first horizontal swipe interface for video selection, which has since become the go-to design for video-based apps like Netflix and Hulu. You can read more about this app on Techcrunch.

In addition to my work on Yahoo Screen, I was also heavily involved in the creation of the Yahoo Celebrity App, a platform that allows users to share and discuss celebrity gossip with their friends (kind of like IMDB meets Snapchat). I contributed to the ideation, prototyping, and seeding of this exciting new app.

I also had the pleasure of working with the Yahoo Marketing Department on various projects, including the company's rebranding efforts and the development of marketing campaigns and microsites for Flickr, Messenger, and Yahoo Advertising.

Conclusion

Working at Yahoo! was my first foray into the corporate world, and it was an incredible experience to have millions of users accessing my products from the day of their release. However, I quickly learned that projects in this type of environment have much longer timelines and involve many more stakeholders in the decision-making process. While this presented some challenges for me personally, I also learned that the tolerance for errors, experimentation, and failure is much lower in a corporate setting. As a result, I decided to return to the startup world and made the move to San Francisco to pursue this passion.
